A Residential Permit is issued co-terminus with your visa or for one year at a time, whichever is earlier. If your stay in India continues beyond that period, you must apply for an extension of stay on the e-FRRO portal before the current permit expires.
Extensions are category-specific: Employment visa extensions require proof of continued employment and tax compliance, Student visa extensions need a bonafide certificate, and Medical visa extensions require a treating-hospital letter.
