All foreign nationals visiting India on a long-term visa (validity above 180 days) must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) having jurisdiction over their place of stay, within 14 days of arrival. On successful registration, a Residential Permit (RP) is issued, which is your legal proof of stay in India.
Registration is done online through the e-FRRO portal. While the portal is designed to be paperless, the application is frequently rejected or sent back for incorrect document uploads, mismatched addresses or missing sponsor undertakings.
